Industry-Interactive Annual Research Symposium of Tourism Economics and Hotel Management

The Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo together with the students of Masters in Tourism Economics and Hotel Management (MTEHM) is organizing an Industry Interactive Research-Based Symposium from 9 a.m. on 5 April at the Senate Hall (College House), University of Colombo on the theme of ‘Enlightening and Integrating Sustainable Tourism Development through Industry-Interactive Tourism Research’.

This symposium is expected to provide an application-oriented research-based knowledge contribution, in association with key responsible stakeholders of the industry, for enlightening and integrating sustainable tourism development in Sri Lanka. The symposium will find a great opportunity to create one of the most essential synergies to develop, strengthen and transform the industry towards the globally recognised best of practices for sustainable tourism development.  In addition, the prospects and challenges for Sri Lanka Tourism development will be discussed at this symposium through application-oriented research findings. With this symposium, it is also expected to inculcate research oriented sensitivity in handling the contemporary issues and challenges for sustainable tourism development. The master students will also be able to get a certain peer reviews for their research findings from this symposium.  

The occasion will be attended by Chief Guest Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo, Guest of Honour P.H.J.B. Sugathadasa, Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs and Paddy Withana, Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and many industry experts. 

The Keynote Speech will be delivered by Retired Prof. Sarath Kotagama in Environmental Science, Department of Zoology, University of Colombo, as stated by Dr. D. A. C. Suranga Silva Course Coordinator of Masters in Tourism Economics & Hotel Management (MTEHM) conducted by the Department of Economics, University of Colombo.
