Thermo Plastics wins Gold Flame Award at Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards

Thermo Plastics Ltd., a pioneer in flexible packaging in the apparel industry was recently recognised by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) for its efficiency in conserving and the management of energy through its energy management efforts by being awarded the Gold Flame in the medium scale, manufacturing sector. The Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards competition is the annual national event conducted by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) for private and public sector institutions with the aim of recognising their contribution towards an energy secure Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards recognises the successful implementation of innovative, cost effective and transferable energy efficiency measures across a range of categories. They cover the full range of energy users, including large and small companies and the public sector.

Director Rashid Hameen speaking about the awards received said, “With concerns about climate change being discussed locally and at every international forum, we at Thermo Plastics understand our responsibility to the environment and the importance of contributing to be a greener organisation. Therefore we initiated the ‘Going Green is Giving Life’ campaign in our offices with the objective of reducing our carbon footprint. The Gold Flame Award received in the medium scale, manufacturing sector at the Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Award reaffirms our commitment to work towards a greener organisation in terms of quality, teamwork and sustainable manufacturing.”

At our factory and office we take every necessary action in order to save energy by utilising natural lighting, cross ventilation and rainwater harvesting; we are proud to say that 14% of the energy used by the factory is from solar power. We have achieved a 50% reduction in the total waste output, by creating an in-house recycling waste management system. We intend to be the best polybag manufacturer in Sri Lanka while retaining an eco-friendly status, while continuing to set the standards that will create ethical and guilt-free products that will revolutionise the industry.”

Thermo Plastic is the first and only polybag manufacturer to be awarded a slew of certifications for its high standards in processes, quality and environmental consciousness.  The company was awarded the following accreditations and is the only polybag manufacturer to receive all four; ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, ISO 50001:2011 and OHSAS 18001:2007 from SGS, Geneva, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company.
