The iconic Galle Face Hotel, Colombo’s luxury getaway has embarked on a new ritual that resonates with its rich history and legendary traditions. A bagpiper playing at sundown is a unique experience that the hotel now offers to complement its British colonial influence.

This new experience takes place at Galle Face Hotel’s iconic Chequerboard, which sits beside a splendid view of the ocean and adjacent to The Verandah restaurant, at 5:40 p.m. each day or just a few seconds before sundown. Concurrently at the time the Sri Lankan Flag is lowered while bidding farewell to the sun as it sets in its rich beauty over the sea.

From its history and grandeur down to its lavish amenities, five-star services, dining experiences and warm hospitality, Galle Face Hotel has continually maintained its unique blend of old charm and modern sophistication.

As South Asia’s pre-eminent hospitality icon, the setting of the hotel’s architectural excellence situated in the heart of Colombo offers a great view of the Indian Ocean and creates an engaging, immersive experience that resonates with old and new generations of travellers, both international and locals alike.
