President to leave for CHOGM 2015 today

President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to leave for Malta today to attend the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The CHOGM 2015 will be held in Malta from 27 to 29 November 2015 under the theme ‘The Commonwealth - Adding Global Value’. Meetings will take place at a number of historical venues around Malta, while the Heads of Government retreat will be held at Fort St. Angelo, situated in Vittoriosa.

Commonwealth leaders in Malta will address global issues such as climate change, building resilience in small states, trade and sustainable development, the empowerment of youth, gender equality and human rights.

Sri Lanka hosted the biennial event, which brings together Heads of State and government from the 53 countries in the Commonwealth, in 2013.
