Commemoration of India’s ‘Constitution Day’ on 26 November

The Constituent Assembly of India adopted a new Indian Constitution on 26 November 1949. India has decided to observe 26 November as ‘Constitution Day’ to commemorate the constitution making process in India and the role of members of the Constituent Assembly, particularly the Chairman of the drafting committee, the late Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. 

In this regard, the High Commission of India, Colombo is organising a commemorative event at which Dr. Jayampathy Wickremaratne, Member of Parliament, will be delivering a lecture titled ‘The Making and Working of the Indian Constitution: Some Issues of Relevance’. The lecture will be on 26 November at 6 p.m. at Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies ‘The Lighthouse,’ 24, Horton Place, Colombo 7.
