Young Sri Lanka MPs visit Beijing; assure stronger ties with China

A delegation of young Sri Lankan parliamentarians has assured to strengthen bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and China when they visited Beijing from 27-28 October.

The delegation of 17 young lawmakers met with Li Jun, Assistant Minister of International Department, Central Committee of CPC, and Wang Xiaochu, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of National People’s Congress.

Chinese Special Envoy of Asia Affairs and former Ambassador of China to Sri Lanka, Sun Guoxiang, also held talks with the visiting MPs, the government news department said quoting a release from the Chinese Embassy.

The Chinese officials introduced the political and legislative system of China, the achievements of China’s development during the past decades as well as China’s friendly policy towards Sri Lanka.

Both sides praised the longstanding friendship between the two countries and between the CPC and Sri Lankan parties. The two sides agreed to strengthen communication and cooperation to further enhance the development of bilateral relations. The 19-member delegation consisting of young MPs of all political parties in parliament and parliament officials was led by Anuradha Jayaratne, Deputy Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment. The delegation will also visit Guang Zhou, Shenzhen and Kunming.

It has been reported that the delegation’s visit to China has been organised by the Chinese Government for the MPs to get a better understanding of the Chinese system of governance and its policies.
