Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa

By Chamodi Gunawardana

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC), has summoned former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for questioning today.

His Media Secretary Rohan Weliwita revealed that Rajapaksa would arrive at the BMICH at 9 a.m. and presumably be questioned over his alleged failure to compensate the Independent Television Network (ITN) for telecasting his presidential campaign advertisements.

The public complaint received by the Commission states that Rajapaksa has yet to pay Rs. 115 million to ITN for his election advertisements.

PRECIFAC is also expected to question several others including former Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, former ITN Chairman Anura Siriwardena and former General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Susil Premajayantha today and tomorrow.

Previously the PRECIFAC’s special police investigative team recorded statements from these persons as well as former Secretary to the Media Ministry Charitha Herath and UPFA MP Dullas Alahapperuma over the allegations.
