Halal Accreditation Council (Guarantee) Ltd. (HAC) will conduct a public forum and discussion entitled ‘Know your Halal’ on Sunday, 30 August 2015 at the BMICH to promote awareness amongst the general public about Halal Compliance Certification.

Halal Accreditation Council (Guarantee) Ltd. is the only entity certifying and conducting professional and internationally accepted audits for Halal compliance standards in Sri Lanka. The HAC is a not-for-profit organisation duly incorporated under the Companies’ Act No. 7 of 2007. The HAC was founded by some of Sri Lanka’s leading and respected personalities of industry and professionals from diverse areas of specialisation with the objective of fulfilling the need to issue certification on and subsequently monitor the compliance of international standards of Halal compliance within Sri Lanka.

HAC is a standards organisation and is no different to any other such organisation in the world. The international acceptance of HAC is evident by the fact that well over 74 international Halal compliance certification bodies in 41 countries recognise and accept HAC’s Halal compliance certification.

Currently, nearly 150 clients including several multinational corporate entities in Sri Lanka are aligning themselves with the Halal compliance certification of HAC. This certification covers a range of over 3,000 products which includes leading brand names in food sector. With this Halal compliance certification and auditing service in place, Sri Lankan corporate entities, especially in the export sector, are poised to enter into and thrive in the global Halal market which is estimated to make up to two trillion US dollars representing the purchasing power of close to two billion Halal compliance conscious consumers. This fast and ever-growing Halal compliance conscious market provides scope for increasing business opportunities by local businesses with their products.

Business growth of such magnitude will hopefully be a direct foreign exchange booster to the economy of Sri Lanka. The forum ‘Know Your Halal’ aims to give to those sections of the general public who are keen and interested to know: the concepts of Halal, the ‘Fiqh’ jurisprudence governing Halal, the processes involved in Halal compliance certification, justification for Halal compliance certification in Sri Lanka.

The HAC is confident that this will afford a distinct opportunity to create awareness, better understanding and clear misconceptions amongst people of diverse faiths living in Sri Lanka. This will eventually pave the way to building understanding for peaceful coexistence between different religious, ethnic and race groups which make the beautiful mosaic of the island nation of Sri Lanka.

Due to the limited space available at the venue, the forum will be restricted to reservations on a first-come, first-served basis at a nominal entrance fee of Rs. 20 per participant.
