The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has raised concerns over the safety of former President and Kurunegala District UPFA candidate at the parliamentary election, Mahinda Rajapaksa.

UPFA candidate and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) member Dilan Perera said that a suspicious character had visited the election office of Rajapaksa in Kurunegala but had later gone missing when an attempt was made to verify his identity.

“We have information that this man had visited the location for about two-three days,” Perera told reporters at a media briefing yesterday.

He said that Northern Provincial Council member and Kurunegala District independent candidate M.K Sivajilingham had made a pledge that he would fulfill the final promise of slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabakaran, and so there are fears Rajapaksa’s life could be under threat. (Colombo Gazette)
