Seylan Bank’s children’s savings account Tikiri has made a dream come true for yet another of its young shining stars – a scholarship winner from Embilipitiya.

Tikiri account holder Venuja Nismith, a 10-year-old student formerly from Embilipitiya Primary School and now a student at Royal College Colombo, has not yet recovered from the wonder and excitement of his holiday in Bangkok with his family.

For a 10-year-old boy who has hit the top grade in his country, it was indeed a rich and exciting reward to have the opportunity to see a different part of the world for the first time in his young life. Venuja is lucky because his family, father, mother and his brother were also able to accompany him, making his first trip out of the country even more memorable.

Venuja’s thrill and excitement at experiencing this city so full of activity that it never sleeps was brimming over even on his return home.

“We had a whole day to enjoy the fun and games at DreamWorld. Seylan Bank had arranged everything. We were picked up from our Hotel Bangkok Palace in the morning and taken to DreamWorld, which was an unforgettable experience for me and my family.

“We went to DreamWorld on our third day in Bangkok. On our second day, we were taken sightseeing around the city of Bangkok and also on a temple tour. The temples were beautiful and we took so many pictures.

“The day we arrived, we went shopping in a huge mall; I’ve never seen a huge mall like this before. I bought toys and lots of clothes and shoes for myself; my family also enjoyed the opportunity to shop in Bangkok for clothes and accessories.”

The three days seemed like a dream from which I woke up he said, clearly enthralled with his experience of his first trip abroad.

Venuja expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude for his memorable reward saying, “Most scholarships are only offered to university students but Seylan Bank is such a wonderful organisation, they think of younger students who are committed to achieving greatness. I am so thankful to Seylan Bank – and it feels so good to be recognised in this manner and this has encouraged me to continue working hard and strive for further excellence.”

The package included return air tickets, accommodation at a star class hotel in Bangkok, return airport transfers, a dream world full day tour which included the fabulous snow city as well and also a city and temple tour.

Venuja’s dad Thilakaratne, overjoyed at his son’s success and amazing reward from the bank, said: “I’m really happy for my son. He had a well-deserved, fun-filled experience in Bangkok. I am glad that I opened a Seylan Tikiri account for him. He has received gifts as per his savings balance and Seylan is the only bank that gives this much attention to its account holders.”

Seylan Bank Deputy General Manager Marketing Tilan Wijeyesekera said: “The Seylan Tikiri savings account is the most value added and fun minor savings schemes in the country and the bank is happy that one of our account holders was able to reach this kind of excellence through his hard work.

“Although Venuja’s achievement was not covered under the standard scheme of rewards for the particular Seylan Tikiri account, we stretched our parameters to accommodate this remarkable performance of one of our young account holders with a well-earned reward of a dream holiday in Bangkok. It is a further endorsement and a commitment to our efforts to inculcate the savings habit among the younger generation.

“Today, 23 years down the line, after the launch of Tikiri, with hundreds of thousands of junior savers across the country, Seylan Tikiri is proud to give the lead and usher in a generation of savings-oriented adults for a more prosperous tomorrow for our nation.”

Launched in 1992, Seylan ‘Tikiri’ went on record as being the first ever minor savings account in Sri Lanka to introduce a gift scheme. Consistent savings was the major drive as Seylan ‘Tikiri’ soon embraced thousands of children from all parts of Sri Lanka and rapidly grew to become a popular household name. Tikiri Kids get special gifts as the account balance grows with deposits.”

This is by far the most interactive and rewarding minors’ savings account scheme in Sri Lanka today,” said DGM Marketing Tilan Wijeyesekera. “Seylan Tikiri has kept on evolving and is rearing to embrace the next generation of little ones and see them through to adulthood in an exciting manner while saving for their future.”

Children who save with ‘Seylan Tikiri’ receive exciting gifts without a draw with an attractive bonus interest. Seylan Tikiri kids also qualify to participate in many exciting promotions throughout the year. Seylan Tikiri takes pride in inculcating the habit of saving among kids while introducing a fun element to the serous habit of saving to educate children on the importance of saving at a tender age.

The Seylan Tikiri gift scheme offers its young account holders a gift when he/she reaches the respective savings slabs. Among the gifts are mugs, waters bottles, school bags, wrist watches, video game pads, MP4 players, remote controlled helicopters, bicycles, organs, DVD setups, tabs and LED TVs. In fact Seylan Tikiri goes on record as being the only children’s account in Sri Lanka which offers such a large combination of high value gifts.

Tikiri accounts can be opened at any one of the island wide network of 156 Seylan Bank branches and many student savings centres in schools.

In addition to the array of exciting gifts, interest is calculated on daily balances and credited to the account on a monthly basis. If you have a Seylan Tikiri Account you would get definite gifts when your account balance reaches each slab.
