Expressway Matara to Hambantota

The President started his weekend off with an event where he laid the foundation stone for the Matara-Hambantota stretch of the Southern expressway. The Chinese-funded project is to be completed within three and a half years, providing 15,000 job opportunities to Sri Lankans.

“I assure you, I will not allow the silent revolution carried out on 8 January to be reversed. Your efforts and confidence placed in me will not be in vain. I did not enter politics randomly or abruptly – my experiences in politics spans close to 49 years. . . I will not let any party decision harm the transformations that occurred in this country after 8 January - I will be sure to protect it,” he stated. 

Dilmah Real High Tea

Later that evening President attended the “Dilmah Real High Tea Evening” a culinary competition which celebrates excellence of 21 national award winning chefs from 14 countries around the globe. President presented the 1st Prize winner’s trophy at the conclusion of the event.   Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was also present at this occasion.

Sunday 4th July 2015

President attended the opening ceremony of the new prayer hall of the Panninpitiya Makumbura ancient  temple. The event which began with the unveiling of the plaque by Presidet Maithripala Sirisena declaring the prayer hall open was followed by a special religious discourse led by  Madulawawe Sobitha Thero of Kotte Nagavihara.

President CBK’s 70th Birthday

President then attended an event at the BMICH to celebrate President Bandaranaike’s 70th birthday.  “Bandarnaike family has done many things for this country, but corruption was never among those things.” President stated in his speech among other remarks and fond recollections from their many years together as politicians.
