A new two-roomed house was built and gifted to H.R. Prasanna his wife A.R.M. Indika and five children of Maddumagedara Watta, Wawwa in the Devinuwara electorate by the welfare societies of the Matara Prison.

Commissioner General of Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara together with the Superintendents of the Prison made a collective decision on 4 May to cut out unnecessary expenses and build 32 houses for the most deserving families in each district.

“District Secretary of Matara E.A.C. Vidangamachchi is one of the most efficient Government servants because she and her staff were able to recommend this family within 24 hours and we were able lay the foundation stone at 6 a.m. on 6 May,” said Matara Superintendent of Prisons A.M.S. Dhammika at the simple house warming ceremony held on 4 June.

Prisoners Welfare Society Chairman Ven. Angunnabadulle Gnanadassi, Rev. Father G.S.K. Herath, Commissioner General of Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara, Matara District Secretary E.A.C. Vidanagamachchi, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Sunil Galagama and other officials and well-wishers attended the house warming ceremony.
