Pathfinder economic proposals presented to JVP

The Pathfinder Foundation (PF), which has completed developing a comprehensive economic policy reform roadmap ‘Charting the Way Forward: Prosperity for All’ commenced handing over its copies yesterday.

Pathfinder Foundation Chairman Bernard Goonetillekehanded over this document to Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva last morning (25) at the JVP Head Quarters in Pelawatte. Pathfinder Director K.Balasundaram, Executive Director LuxmanSiriwardena andProject Manager AmeeraAroozalso participated at this event.

This roadmap for reviving the economic growth and development in Sri Lanka has been published in in Sinhala, Tamil and English.

At the handing over ceremony Siriwardena stated that the JVP was the only party so far to invite public proposals and suggestions for formulation of its political manifesto to be presented at the next Parliamentary election. In response, Silva said that the party would like to continue the discussion on ways and means of accelerating the economic development of the country.

As envisioned the PF will personally hand over copies of this roadmap to the leadership of all the major political parties currently represented in the Parliament so that it can influence their election manifesto-making process.

This document has been prepared on the basis of over 50 studies previously commissioned by the Pathfinder Foundation with special emphasis on studies undertaken in 2014 covering economic issues such as: export development and diversification; strengthening the conducive climate for foreign and local investment; watering the North Central and Northern Provinces; promoting microfinance to empower conflict affected communities; increasing living standards of plantation communities; addressing macroeconomic adjustments; and prospects for improving efficiency and productivity of State-Owned Enterprises.

As an independent non-partisan think-tank the Pathfinder Foundation seeks to promote a livelydiscussion to build consensus among politicians and the general public on a commonly accepted package of economic reforms.
