Indian firm to set up vocational centre in Nuwara Eliya

Bangalore:  HMT-International, a wholly owned subsidiary of HMT Ltd., has signed an agreement with the Ministry of External Affairs to set up a vocational training centre in Sri Lanka worth Rs. 8.93 crore.

The company said the vocational training centre will be set up at Nuwara Eliya under the assistance of the Government of India. The project is scheduled for completion in nine months.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed by Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, on behalf of India, and S. Girish Kumar, Managing Director, HMT-International, on behalf of the company.

According to the agreement, HMT-International will set up facilities for seven technical trades to supply, install and commission various modern machines tools, equipment, computers, precision and maintenance of machines and equipment, and provide on the job training at the vocational training centre in Nuwara Eliya.

The company is working with the Ministry of External Affairs for setting up training projects in ASEAN countries, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, East and South Africa.

HMT-International is at present implementing projects in Zimbabwe, Kyrgyzstan, Mozambique, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Indonesia, and Batticaloa (Sri Lanka).
