‘Sithaka’ fetches all-time record price

At the Tea Auction held on 9 December, Invoice 2384 OP1 320 kg from Sithaka/Avissawella Tea factory fetched an all-time record price of Rs. 1,850 per kg. This line of tea was purchased by M/S Empire Teas Ltd. and was sold by Mercantile Produce Brokers Ltd.

This tea factory is situated in Sabaragamuwa Region and is owned by renowned entrepreneur and RTS Group Chairman/Managing Director Lalith Liyanage, who owns Hidellana Tea Factory which is another renowned tea factory in Ratnapura region.

This factory has produced high quality of Low Grown Orthodox teas and has achieved many all-time record prices and top prices at the Colombo Tea Auctions, as well as many international awards such as: Avissawella Tea Factory was awarded Silver medal winner of 2019 at the World Black Tea quality evaluation competition presented by China Tea Marketing Association ; Winner of specialty tea award Gold medal tea competition 2nd place – 2013 awarded by North American Tea Conference; Winner of specialty tea award Gold medal tea competition 2nd place – 2012 awarded by North American Tea Conference; Sithaka/Avissawella Tea factory was awarded winner for total Excellence in Tea production Low Grown Category – 2017 presented by Tea Exporters Association of Sri Lanka; Sithaka/Avissawella Tea factory was awarded winner for total Excellence in Tea production Low Grown Category – 2018 presented by Tea Exporters Association of Sri Lanka; Award of Excellence presented to Avissawella Tea Factory under the tea category of Best Tea Factory (Medium Scale) of Ratnapura Region during the year 2013; Award of Excellence presented to Avissawella Tea Factory for Best Tea Factory (Medium Scale) of Ratnapura Region during the year 2012; Awarded for outstanding entrepreneurship award 2013 by Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Committee; Awarded Bronze Award for outstanding entrepreneurship in Sabaragamuwa Province; and Awarded Two-Star winner of Ceylon Tea Quality Certificate presented by Sri Lanka Tea Board – 2008.

This factory has obtained many certificates namely; Rainforest Alliance certification, HACCP, ETP and CQC.
