MJF Media (Pvt.) Ltd. announced the launch of Everlasting Radio 97FM, this September. MJF Media (Pvt.) Ltd, part of the MJF Group, added that the English radio station will be the first of three planned channels, with radio stations for the Sinhala and Tamil speaking audiences also in the pipeline.

Speaking at the launch, Dilhan C. Fernando, Managing Director of MJF Media said, “The MJF Group is founded on the guiding principle that business should be a matter of human service. The eclectic mix of music and shows featuring both information and inspiration will exemplify MJF Media’s commitment to this principle. Everlasting Radio 97FM and its sister channels will act as a beacon of social empowerment among our listeners.”

Fernando went on to add that he was confident that Everlasting Radio would stand out for its unique programming, adding that some human interest shows will help inspire Everlasting Radio listeners to continuously evolve as people and as professionals. From a purely music lover’s point of view, Everlasting Radio’s programming will feature music from the 60s, 70s and 80s, with a touch of the 90s and 2000s.

During the launch ceremony, Nilan Kaluarachchi – Programmes Manager and S. Srikandakumar – Operations Manager introduced the distinguished gathering to MJF Media, its vision and some of the programmes that began airing post-launch.

In addition, the launch ceremony also featured special performances by the children of the MJF Foundation. The children’s troupe, a combination of differently-abled and able children from under privileged backgrounds, performed a highly entertaining dance mix to a medley of popular songs from the 60s through to the 80s. The closing item of the ceremony was a special DJ mix by Everlasting Radio’s in-house DJs Mike and Jason, giving the audience a taste of Club 97, Everlasting Radio’s weekend dance mix-show.

The MJF Group’s origins date back to the 1950s when founder, Merrill J. Fernando, dreamt of marketing pure Ceylon tea. Established in 1974, the group is today renowned for Dilmah tea, one of the world’s most loved brands of tea.

The group’s activities include the printing, packaging and export of tea; rubber, tea and coconut estate management, real estate and property development; and investment and private portfolio management.

The MJF Foundation oversees the group’s commitment to society through specially-developed programmes that emphasise the quality of lives of children and the elderly in the estates.
