Suren Rajakarier appointed KPMG Sri Lanka and Maldives Managing Partner

Suren Rajakarier has assumed duties as Managing Partner of KPMG’s member firm in Sri Lanka and its practice in the Republic of Maldives with effect from 1 April 2026.

Rajakarier previously served as Chief Operating Officer for KPMG Sri Lanka and Maldives. He led the firm’s audit practice for nearly two decades. With over 38 years of experience in audit and assurance services, he has worked extensively with multinational corporations as well as leading Sri Lankan organisations across a broad range of industries.

Over the course of his career, Rajakarier has served as Engagement Partner on numerous audit, assurance and advisory assignments and is recognised as an accredited IFRS partner in Sri Lanka. His work has spanned complex financial reporting engagements, corporate advisory assignments and large-scale due diligence exercises across both private and public sector institutions.

He has also been involved in several landmark transactions and strategic engagements in the country. These include Sri Lanka Telecom’s strategic partnership with NTTI of Japan, the sale of Lanka Lubricants to Caltex, the privatisation of the Queen Elizabeth Container Terminal of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and the sale of Eagle Insurance shares to Zurich Financial Services and subsequently to Aviva Insurance.

Rajakarier’s experience extends significantly into the public sector, where he has served as the audit partner responsible for several of the country’s largest state-owned enterprises including Bank of Ceylon, People’s Bank, Ceylon Electricity Board, Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal Ltd, Sri Lanka Insurance and Sri Lankan Airlines. Through these roles he has been closely involved in strengthening financial reporting practices, governance structures and accountability within major national institutions.

In addition to his client responsibilities, Suren has contributed to the development of the accounting and auditing profession in Sri Lanka. He currently serves as Chairman of the Statutory Auditing Standards Committee and is a member of the Statutory Accounting Standards Committee established under the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Act No. 15 of 1995, which is responsible for the formulation and recommendation of Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards.

He succeeds Priyanka Jayathilake, who served as Managing Partner of KPMG Sri Lanka and Maldives since April 2023. With nearly four decades of experience across technology, audit and advisory services, Jayathilake played a key role in strengthening the firm’s Advisory and Technology capabilities and expanding its consulting offerings.

Prior to assuming the role of Managing Partner, Jayathilake served as Head of Advisory and Technology practices and Managing Director of KPMG Technology Solutions Ltd., leading a team of over 600 professionals and associates across technology, management consulting, risk consulting and transactions and restructuring practices.

He was instrumental in establishing several of the firm’s specialist divisions, including Technology Solutions, IT Audit & Advisory, Outsourcing, HR Solutions and Executive Search. In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Jayathilake served as the firm’s Chief Information Officer and Chief Knowledge Officer for Sri Lanka and the Maldives and previously functioned as the National IT Security Officer.
