Qatar Airways wins two at Oman Airports Awards

  • Secures ‘Best Route Network Developing Airline’ and ‘Best Contribution to O&D Development Foreign Airline’

 

Qatar Airways has announced that it has been named ‘Best Route Network Developing Airline’ and ‘Best Contribution to O&D Development Foreign Airline’ at the Oman Airports Awards 2019. 

The awards were presented at a ceremony that took place recently at Al Bustan Palace in Muscat to recognise companies operating at airports throughout the Sultanate of Oman.

The ‘Best Route Network Developing Airline’ award commends Qatar Airways’ network development strategy and robust expansion around the globe, while the ‘Best Contribution to O&D Development Foreign Airline’ highlights the airline’s services to the Sultanate of Oman. The National Carrier of the State of Qatar operates 70 flights per week to three Omani gateways: Muscat, Salalah and Sohar.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said: “We are delighted to receive these awards from our Omani partners, as they recognise our dedication to people of Oman and celebrates the longstanding and important relationship Qatar Airways shares with the Sultanate of Oman. Oman has always been a key market for us, with 70 direct flights to three destinations in Oman, and will continue to be so in the future.”

State-owned Oman Airports Management Company is responsible for the management and operations of civil airports in the Sultanate of Oman. The infrastructure of the airports, including terminal buildings, cargo building, runway, apron, car parking and other facilities, are directly under the management of Oman Airports Management Company.

The National Carrier of the State of Qatar has been flying to Oman since 2000, when it first began direct services to the Omani capital, Muscat. In 2013, Salalah was added to the airline’s expanding network as the second destination, followed by Sohar in 2017.

A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Business Class’ by the 2018 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation 

Skytrax. It was also named ‘Best Business Class Seat’, ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’, and ‘World’s Best First-Class Airline Lounge’.

Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Business Class, ‘Best Business Class Seat’, ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’ and ‘World’s Best First-Class Airline Lounge’ in the 2018 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax.

The carrier will launch a host of exciting new destinations in 2019, including Lisbon, Portugal; Malta; Rabat, Morocco; Davao, Philippines; Langkawi, Malaysia; Izmir, Turkey; and Mogadishu, Somalia.
