The leading national information and communications technology solutions and broadband and backbone infrastructure provider in the country Sri Lanka Telecom PLC, proudly announced that the much anticipated ‘SLT Speed-Up Cycle Sawariya’ is scheduled to be held from 24 to 28 September for the fourth successive year.

This national cycle race was first organised in 2016 with the objective of uplifting cycling-related sports activities in the country. This year’s Cycle Sawariya was launched at the ‘Presidential Sports Awards’ held recently at the BMICH.

Sri Lanka Telecom has planned to provide a novel experience to both cyclists and spectators this year by covering all the nine provinces for the first time in the history of cycle racing in Sri Lanka. The Cycle Sawariya will be conducted under four categories: Men’s race, women’s race, children’s race and online cycle race. This cycle race will also mark another significant milestone in the cycling journey of the country, in that it features the first-ever competitive cycling event for school children. The race will ceremonially commence in Colombo on 24 September and end in Dambulla on 28 September, with a coverage of over 1000 kilometres.SLT Speed Up Cycle Sawariya will conclude with a prize awarded to the winner of the Men’s race, amounting to Rs. 1 million, which will also be the highest prize given to a cycling champion in Sri Lanka.

As the number one and the most stable broadband network, SLT has carefully chosen the ‘Speed-Up’ theme to connect the company’s consistent attempts to provide the customers with ultra-high-speed solutions with sports activities, while further expanding its reach to all corners in the island. In covering all the nine provinces, the race symbolises the SLT broadband backbone throughout the country.  Several activities will be implemented by SLT in parallel to this event in order to expand its ICT solutions and raise public awareness on the potential of latest technologies and innovations to transform their lives into Smart citizens. In this year, the company has further extended the SLT Speed Up theme by conducting a motorsports and a highly successful karting challenge.

The company has also taken steps to make a large contribution to the Government’s mission of transforming the country into a Smart Sri Lanka, highlighted with the National Digital Roadmap which was recently launched at a massive gathering. Events of this kind will also shed a new light on that objective with sustainable outcomes for the future of the ICT landscape in Sri Lanka.
