World Rugby Competition and Performance Head Mark Egan, speaking to media at the Commonwealth Rugby Sevens 2018 in Gold Coast, said: “We have opened the bids for the World Series selection process for 2018/2019 venues. We want to include or change a few more venues. Fiji, too, have given us a very good proposal, and we will study and see their infrastructure if this meets the standard, in order to host this event. The Government of Fiji too have undertaken to modernise and upgrade the stadium in Nadi, which is a tourist destination.”

Egan also said: “Sri Lanka, though they lost out, played well and they will need more opportunity at this level.”

World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont too attended this media briefing which took place at the Robina Stadium in Gold Coast.
