Supply chain logistics provider Eagle Logistics celebrated 13 years in business last week with religious activities at its head office at R.A. De Mel Mawatha, Colombo 3.

Eagle Logistics started its business in 2005 by Managing Director Asanga Weerackody and his co-partner CL Synergy with a three-person operation at Elvitigala Mawatha. Today Eagle Logistics has expanded to an operation comprising over 130 people with five offices in Sri Lanka and a branch office in the Maldives.

DGM Christine Jenifer, who has been with the company since its inception, said: “Eagle Logistics is a company which has helped more than 300 young people start their careers in logistics and I am one of them. The recruitment policy of the company is unique and has helped the company to have a good culture which is one of the reasons why Eagle is improving day by day. The transparent and open form of communication practiced here makes employees feel that what they have to say has value. This results in employees feeling that they belong in the organisation. Work then becomes meaningful because the employees know that what they contribute has an impact on the organisation they are affiliated with.”

While being active in the market Eagle Logistics realised that being involved in supply chain management is important for a freight forwarder since logistics it is part of the same operation. In 2011, Eagle Logistics became the first freight company to be a member of the Institute of Supply and Materials Management in Sri Lanka. Further the company started its 4PL division seven years ago which serves many multinational companies to improve their supply chain process. This was developed under the brand e-visible.

Eagle Global Express (EGX) is the express arm of Eagle Logistics started last year in partnership with global parcel express giant GLS. GLS is one of the biggest express companies in Europe handling more than six million parcels every year.
