As the world continues to see stronger storms, faster spread of wildfires, and water levels rise, one organisation is taking action and inviting world thought leaders into the conversation to start creating change – The Climate Reality Project. Founded by former US Vice President, Al Gore, The Climate Reality Project aims to move the conversation of the climate crisis from awareness into action at all levels of society.

Last month Carbon Consulting Company (CCC) CEO Sanith de Silva Wijeyeratne was one of the global climate leaders selected to join the August international body of activists, through a series of training workshops in Pittsburgh led by former US Vice President Gore and other world-renowned climate scientists and advocates. The three-day workshop consisted of keynote speakers from across the globe coming together with business leaders to learn about the changes that are happening to our planet and how to publicise them through storytelling in order to inspire action.

On successful completion of the program, each thought leader is awarded with the green ring pin worn by Al Gore in ‘An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power’. The pin is meant to symbolise The Climate Reality Project’s logo and the atmosphere we are all trying to protect.

“It is a privilege for me to be the first Sri Lankan to be accepted into this prestigious organization,” said de Silva Wijeyeratne, “Over the last six years, the Carbon Consulting Company has been at the forefront of advocating corporate environmental responsibility in the Sri Lankan marketplace. Our list of committed clients continues to grow, with many of them being the first in their categories in the Asian region as well as the world. I firmly believe my selection as a Climate Reality Leader is an undoubted recognition of the hard work and commitment of the team at CCC and its founding Directors. It also serves to further strengthen my resolve to continue encouraging companies and individuals to take more proactive steps toward the creation of a brighter and greener future.”
