Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih were the first heads of State to congratulate Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.

Rajapaksa, in turn, thanked the two officials for their positive statements.

“Thank you PM @narendramodi for your congratulatory phone call. With the strong support of the people of #SriLanka, I look forward to working with you closely to further enhance the long-standing cooperation between our two countries. Sri Lanka & India are friends & relations,” Rajapaksa tweeted in response to Modi’s call.

“Thank you Maldives President @ibusolih and Vice President @FaisalNasym for your calls and warm wishes. Look forward to working with you closely on matters of mutual interest to both Sri Lanka and Maldives,” he said in response to Solih’s congratulatory message.
