23 MPs head District Coordinating Committees

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday appointed 23 Members of Parliament, including veterans such as S.B. Dissanayake and young politicians Angajan Ramanathan and Nipuna Ranawaka who topped in preferential votes in Jaffna and Matara respectively, as District Coordinating Committee Chairmen.

District Coordinating Committee (DCC) is central as an advisory body to the districts. It is chaired by an MP appointed by the President with the GA acting as secretary. The DCC assembles all provincial ministers, all Provincial Council members of the district, and all the chairpersons of local authorities within the respective district. It is the major decision-making body in the district, sanctioning all development projects and programs.
