Galle Face Hotel has announced it will be hosting a benefit evening of sophistication with a four-course culinary journey entwined with classical opera.

In association with Barbara Segal Music and Meneka de Fonseka Sahabandu, international guest stars Carlos Conde Gonzales, Maestro Peter Crockford and Benito Rodriguez will perform during the evening along with Barbara’s advanced students.

The event is taking place on Friday 5 July from 7.00 p.m. onwards in the Jubilee Ballroom, with pre-show refreshments including canapés served from 6.30 p.m.

Professor and Baritone Carlos Conde Gonzalez has had a huge international career and sung lead roles all over the world and also does accreditation for universities. The Metropolitan Opera Auditions were recently held at the university where he gives master classes. He came to Sri Lanka for the first time in February and gave free master classes at the University of Visual and Performing Arts.

Maestro Peter Crockford has conducted opera and orchestral performances across the world and has visited Sri Lanka five times to conduct master classes with the advanced students and more recently with students from the University of Visual and Performing Arts.

Tenor Benito Rodriguez made his debut as Rodolfo in "La Boheme" in Mexico City and has since performed this role many times. He has also sung in other parts of the world such as Israel, England, Italy, France, Dubai, and Austria. This year Benito performed alongside internationally acclaimed soprano, Sumi Jo in a concert at the United Nations and will be part of the cast of Majestad la Zarzuela under the direction of Maestro Placido Domingo.

Barbara Segal, herself an international performer and regular guest lecturer at various music conservatoires, is based in Sri Lanka, offering intensive tutorials for students who have great potential for the future of opera in Sri Lanka.

The Jubilee Ballroom will be filled with gastronomic and musical splendour for this special evening, a perfect opportunity to create exposure for the arts in Sri Lanka and to promote local talent.

Galle Face Hotel is delighted to have Turkish Airlines and Luxury Brands.lk joining them in sponsoring this event.
