Certificates of completion were awarded to 175 technical officers to mark the successful completion of a first-of-its-kind Skill Development Program launched by INSEE Cement together with the Central Provincial Council of Sri Lanka. The award presentation was the culmination of a pioneering public-private partnership (PPP) signed by INSEE Cement – Sri Lanka’s foremost cement manufacturer – and the Central Provincial Council to implement vocational education and training for Provincial Technical Officers.

Central Province Governor Maithri Gunaratne graced the occasion as Guest of Honour in the presence of Central Province former Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake. Central Province Chief Secretary M.S. Premawansa, Central Province Deputy Chief Secretary for Engineering Services Eng. H.W.S.P. Jayawardena and Central Province Deputy Chief Secretary for Personnel and Training W.M. Wickramarathne were also present at the event alongside District Engineers, Chief Engineers, INSEE Cement Executive Committee Members and other dignitaries.

INSEE Cement partnered with the Central Province Chief Secretarial Office in June 2018 to facilitate the training program for Technical Officers (TOs) in Kandy for over a period of seven months under seven training modules – plumbing, electrical work, aluminium work, quantity surveying, surveying and levelling, cement and concrete solutions. A total number of 175 TOs successfully completed the comprehensive skill development, which has now been implemented in the Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces due to its unanimous reception and acknowledgement by the TOs and Government authorities as a sustainable investment for the industry.

“We are thrilled with the success of this pioneering Skill Development Program, and are encouraged by the support we have received from both local authorities as well as our target stakeholder groups,” commented INSEE Cement Executive Vice President – Sales, Marketing and Innovations Jan Kunigk. “Our objective is to reach across all provinces of Sri Lanka and enhance the knowledge and skill levels of local technical officers, a sure foundation for uplifting and sustainably advancing local industry standards.”
