NDB wins Banking Sector National Business Excellence Award 2018

National Development Bank PLC emerged Winner under the banking sector at the National Business Excellence Awards 2018, hosted by the National Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka (NCCSL) in addition to emerging as the Runner-Up for Excellence in Corporate Governance. The 15th Edition of the National Business Excellence Awards, which recognize corporates who have excelled in business, was held at Hilton, Colombo.The National Business Excellence Awards is an annual award competition conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) with a view to recognizing the business enterprises, that display Business excellence as well as in each pillar of excellence.

The contenders for the Business Excellence Awards were evaluated by an eminent panel of judges over the past few months and judged on a newly structured Excellence Evaluation Model of 7 criteria, namely Excellence in Business and Financial Results, Capacity Building, Performance Management, Local and Global market Reach, Leadership, Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability. This Excellence Model has benchmarked some of the World’s best known excellence models such as the Deming Award of Japan, the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award of USA and the European Federation Excellence Model of Europe.

NDB’s Group Chief Executive Officer Dimantha Seneviratne accepted the award in the presence of a large gathering of top business leaders, leading business organizations, and diplomatic missions.

The Bank’s accomplishments stand witness to NDB’s enhanced stature and prominence. NDB also won the The Banker – UK “Bank of the Year, Sri Lanka” award as well as the Best Bank in Sri Lanka by the coveted awards program of the Global Finance Magazine USA. As such 2018 marks a significant year for NDB where it won both these prestigious awards in one single year, which is a rare feat for a bank. NDB’s 2017 Annual Report themed “Take a Closer Look” was recognized with the Bronze Award at the CA Sri Lanka Annual Reports Awards 2018. In addition NDB won a number of other awards within the year 2018 including being named the Bank of the Year for “Excellence in Customer Convenience” from LankaPay Technnovation Awards, and seven additional awards under three categories - Retail Banking Awards, Wholesale Banking Awards and Corporate & Investment Banking Awards by the Asian Banking & Finance Magazine of Singapore, among others.
