Inter-Bank Trade Finance Quiz 2018: Bank of Ceylon ‘A’ Champions

The Annual Inter-Bank Trade Finance Quiz and Social organised by the Trade Finance Association of Bankers was held on Saturday, 20 October at the Main Ballroom, Hotel Galadari with DFCC Bank Chairman Royle Jansz as the Chief Guest. Bank of Ceylon ‘A’ emerged the Champions of the Trade Finance Quiz – 2018 as well as the Trade Rules Champions – 2018.

The event commenced with the Quiz competition with 23 teams taking part. The Quiz competition comprised of four rounds; International Trade Rules I. International Trade Rules – II and Foreign Affairs, Current Affairs and Sports & Entertainment. Bank of Ceylon ‘A’ team led by Dhanushka Sumathiratne and including Kaushalya Wanniarachchi, Satchith Gurugamage, Supun Liyanage and Sugath Fernando won the competition and was awarded the ‘Seylan Bank Challenge Trophy’ presented by the Chief Guest, Royle Jansz. Seylan Bank ‘A’ team led by Shanaka Perera and including Nimesh Dissanayake, Chandrika Vas Gunawardena, Gayan Dissanayake and Harshini Boteju became the First Runner up and received their trophy from Gayan Algama, Representative, JP Morgan Chase, Colombo. Commercial Bank team led by Himali Perera and including Sunari Dandeniya, Kumari Bastianz, Nimesha Hansini, Niranjan Hettige became the Second Runner up and received their trophy from A. Kathiravelupillai, member of the Advisory Committee, TFAB.

Bank of Ceylon ‘A’ tied with Sampath Bank to be the Trade Rules Champions but since they scored higher marks in the ‘International Trade Rules – I’ Round, in terms of the laid down criteria was adjudged the champions and was awarded the ‘Parama Dharmawardene Challenge Trophy’ which was presented to them by the donor Parama Dharmawardene, the Quiz Master himself.

Chief Guest, Royle Jansz delivering his addressed stressed the importance of the commercial banks educating their import/export customers on the new trade products such as Bankers Payment Obligation which will be beneficial to both banks as well as their customers. Drawing on his long experience in an export business he advised the bankers to cater to the actual needs of the customers rather than confining themselves to their comfort zone by restricting themselves offering the traditional trade products.

The Quiz competition was followed by the social with fellowship, plenty of prizes and surprises including a raffle draw. Dancing till late night to the lively and vibrant music dished out by the band and the DJ the bankers were seen having a rollicking time.
