West-End Theatre Camp by Cinnamon: Let your kid’s time away from school count this summer!

Camp in the city with the highly anticipated West-End Theatre Camp, in association with HSBC Premier, as it gears up to present an exceptional theatre initiative for children in Sri Lanka.

Set to take place from the 4-8 August, the camp will be conducted by three internationally acclaimed theatre personalities including the highly renowned director and choreographer Jonny Bowles; associate director, choreographer and acting coach John Scott Clark; and musical director and vocal coach David Roper who have all have been integral some of the world’s best films, television shows and stage shows such as Peter Pan, Annie, The Bodyguard, Billy Elliot, The West Side Story, Macbeth, Mary Poppins Returns, Mamma Mia! and more.

This theatre camp will be carried out in two parts, a one-day session for beginners on 4 August followed by a four-day in-depth session from 5 to 8 August for two age categories of children between 6 to 12 years and 13 to 18 years, focusing on an array of activities relating to theatre and performance. Children will be exposed to the basic elements of the craft of acting, fundamental acting techniques and means to break down physical and internal inhibitions, deliver believable performances and look within to create relatable characters. The camp invites children to take the stage with confidence as it covers a wide variety of activities that will empower kids to unleash the star within, tap into their creative potential and emerge as confident young people and artists.  

The instructors will include Jonny Bowles, an international theatre professional with a wealth of experience and knowledge who has choreographed the international tour of ‘The Sound of Music’ and directed West End and global stage productions such as ‘Annie’, ‘The Bodyguard’, ‘Billy Elliot’, ‘The West Side Story’, and more and Jon-Scott Clark is known as the assistant choreographer and acting coach of ‘Peter Pan Pantomime’ and director of ‘The Wind in The Willows’. He has also performed in productions including ‘Macbeth’, ‘Mary Poppins Returns’, ‘Mamma Mia International Tour’ ensemble and more. He will be able to share his tips and tricks during the camp, focusing on the need to keep acting as natural as possible.

Also sharing his expertise at the camp will be David Roper who has worked as a performer and musical director in theatre and television for the past 30 years. He has sung on radio and TV shows with Tony Hadley, Mark Ronson and Mark Wynter. He has also performed on over 250 episodes of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. He has worked with many award-winning choreographers including Anthony Van Last and Billy Deamer Drew McOnie and was production musical director for the first national tour of Fame the The musical which then returned to the west end and racked up over 800 performances.
