‘Duo exhibition of paintings by Segar & Nisansala’ on 3-4 August

The ‘Duo Exhibition of Paintings by Segar & Nisansala’ will be held on 3 and 4 August at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The two renowned artists with different mother tongues, ethnicity, gender and it’s entirely two different styles, yet one thing in common – creative vision.

Rajar Segar is one of Sri Lanka’s finest contemporary artists and a sculptor. He has exhibited in many countries, which has bought him global recognition. Segar is a self-tutored artist, who started to design his own greeting cards based on day-to-day lifestyle of Sri Lankans. After that Segar started experimenting on the refractive effect of light in his abstract and cubism paintings, which made a serious impact on his creations. 

Currently Segar is a living legend, who loves to work in watercolor, oil and mixed media. He has had exhibitions in Australia, England, India, South Korea, Nepal, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Further he has represented Sri Lanka at the Cultural Summit of Abu Dhabi in 2017 and 2019 and has been featured in several international magazines including Reader’s Digest. During his 19th solo exhibition in Colombo, he donated the sales proceeds to the Neurosurgery Trust Fund of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. Nisansala K. Rajapaksa is a renowned contemporary artist as well as a Creative Director. She has been in the creative field ever since she was small. 

Having received the BFA from California State University, San Jose in Photography and Graphic Design she completed her M.A. in Buddhist Studies from Kelaniya University. Armed with an education that spans Eastern and Western artistic conventions, her art has developed into a mix of modern techniques and Sri Lankan tradition, meticulously held together by unique sense of colour and perspective. She is the founder of Casa Serena Art Gallery, Sri Lanka.

She has held many solo exhibitions in Sri Lanka and in the USA.  Her work is held in several collections in USA, Germany, Japan, Sri Lanka and India, including the personal collection of Sri Padmanabadasa Uttarananda Marthanda Varma Maharaja of Travancore. She dedicated her last solo exhibition ‘Aubo’ to create awareness and raise funds for a Chemotherapy Port Project for Paediatric Cancer Patients. She hopes to add vibrancy and beauty to the Sri Lankan art world.
