Annesley’s sing-a-long on Saturday, a fundraiser to Olcott Sports Foundation

A sing-a-long program ‘Rhythm of the Night with Annesley Malewana and the Super Chimes’ has been organised at Grand Monarch Hotel, Thalawathugoda on 3 August from 7.30 p.m. onwards by the ‘Colonel Henry Steele Olcott Memorial Sports Foundation’ (CHSOMSF) in order to raise funds for their projects to be launched in the current year.

The CHSOMSF was formed in January 1996 under the leadership of M/S Bandula Warnapura and Jayantha Senevirathne of Nalanda College, Asoka Pathirana of Maliyadeva College, Upul Sumathipala of Mahinda College, D.M. Dharmathilake of Dharmaraja College, Palitha Gunasekara and Kumar Weerasooriya of Ananda College, T.K. Palitha and Donald Perera of Dharmapala College, Daya Ramanayake of Rahula College, Lal Ranasinghe of Dharmasoka College, representing the leading eight schools established by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott.

CHSOMSF Treasurer Gamini Swarnapala explained that the fund raised from this type of events will be utilised in enhancing educational standards of schools, to promote, foster and encourage sports activities amongst the schools and to conduct activities, seminars, training courses, workshops, examinations, quiz programs and such other activities to develop interaction amongst the schools, past pupils and the past pupils’ associations of schools interested in perpetuating the memory of Colonel Henry Steele Olcott.

At present CHSOMSF is conducting various annual events to meet its objectives such as Cricket tournaments among school teams and Past Pupils, Relay carnival, Table Tennis and Badminton tournaments, Quiz competitions among Olcott schools and other invited schools and Residential Leadership Development program for selected school children. Also CHSOMSF provides the sports equipment and cricket leather balls to the schools.
