An undertaking has been launched by LB finance PLC to address the critical needs of the health sector in Sri Lanka and to instigate the required change that would significantly impact the lives of all citizens of Sri Lanka. In LB Finance’s ongoing CSR endeavours they clearly recognised the improvement of health as a social development activity. With that rational the company has identified that they can approach to develop the national healthcare sector via looking at the national need of Sri Lanka.

LB Finance PLC partnered with Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped (SLFVH) to contribute the needy equipment for the students in Sri Lanka. The event was successfully held at the premises of Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped with the participation of more than 130 visually handicapped students. From this project LB Finance PLC expands facilities to school students by providing necessary educational assistive devices such as Slates, Stylus, Braille papers and Talking watches in order to enhance their knowledge in Braille media. As an initial move the company catered to 130 students from grade 1 to grade 5 who study in special schools and government schools under the integrated system of education.

“The primary objective of this project is to encourage them to read and write in Braille and facilitate them to further their knowledge in reading and writing habits. Likewise we inspire them to take down notes and gather information required from seminars, lectures, events and so forth by the use of Braille device; also to continue higher studies and make them become partners of the society, secure their employment opportunities, safety, and dignity and make them apply their teaching methods learned by differently able blind community,” said Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped Secretary Chameera Pubudu.

Commenting on this value addition, LB Finance PLC Managing Director Sumith Adihetty said, “This endeavour was to enhance the skill levels of the visually handicapped students and elevate the standard of the primary education system in the Sri Lanka. Extending beyond the boundaries of the core business framework of LB Finance PLC, this endeavour demonstrates the company’s commitment to produce timely and relevant action for the benefit of the nation.”

This project can be considered as an innovative project because this project provides the value addition to the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped by a private finance company in Sri Lanka. Further it carries benefits that cannot get from another infrastructure development project which means, it helps to enhance quality of the education of many lives and bring long term benefits to Sri Lankan education system at large.
