Emirates tops world for First Class, Business capacity

Emirates Airline is the number one airline for premium capacity measured in international available seat kilometres (ASKMs), clocking 876 million ASKMs per week, according to flights data firm OAG. OAG said the popularity of the Dubai-based airline’s Business and First Class cabins is primarily due to the long haul nature of Emirates fleet deployment. Earlier this month, the airline received delivery of its 50th A380, configured with 90 First and Business Class seats, further adding to Emirates’ average weekly capacity of over 191,000 premium seats. Korean Air takes delivery of 10th Airbus A380

Korean Air has added a tenth Airbus A380 aircraft to its fleet. The latest A380, which is configured in a three-class layout with just 407 seats in total, is now going through the required tests in Korea before making its debut flight to Atlanta on 3 August 2014. Korean Air operates fourteen A380 flights a week between both Incheon-Los Angeles and Incheon-New York and also seven flights a week between Incheon-Paris. The carrier also operates the A380 on the Incheon-Atlanta route, strengthening competitiveness on long haul business routes. Emirates improves inflight entertainment for visually impaired

Emirates has added Audio Description soundtracks to many of the movies it shows on its inflight entertainment system, ice Digital Widescreen. Emirates’ ice (information, communication and entertainment) now offers Audio Description soundtracks on 16 Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures films including Frozen, Saving Mr. Banks, Cars 2, Monsters University, Marvel’s The Avengers, Toy Story 3 and all four Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Audio Description, increasingly common in cinemas and TV, is a recorded narration explaining the scene during the gaps in dialogue, while the film soundtrack continues at its normal pace. AirAsia has become the first airline in Asia Pacific to implement light ticketing technology from Amadeus which gives travel agencies an even simpler way to book the airline’s content. For the first time, traditional shopping, booking and back-office flows will be combined with real-time dynamic fares provided through AirAsia’s XML connection with Amadeus. Maurice Cook is an Australian citizen but very much a Sri Lankan at heart as he was born in Wellawatte, Sri Lanka and completed his studies at St Peter’s College, Colombo. What is remarkable about his appointment is the fact that he has returned after 38 years as the General Manager to the very property where he began his career in hospitality as a busboy/waiter back in 1974 to 1976 when it was an Intercontinental.
