Maritime business boosts core profit at Inmarsat

Reuters: British satellite company Inmarsat Plc reported a slight increase in its quarterly core earnings on growth in its maritime unit.
“Subscriber growth of over 10 percent in the first quarter continues to underpin our expectations for improved results in 2012.” Chief Executive Rupert Pearce said in a statement.
Core earnings at Inmarsat Group rose 1 percent to $205 million in the first quarter.

Rienzie reiterates blame despite CSE denial

Former Chairman and veteran banker Rienzie T. Wijetilleke yesterday reiterated his position that the Colombo Stock Exchange by its inaction and non-intervention in a timely manner over the NSB-TFC deal had failed in its moral and ethical obligations.

Inventors Commission opens unique opportunity for young visionaries in ICT

The Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) is inviting young ICT visionaries who are between the ages of 18 to 25 years to take part in an international competition organised by ITU the UN agency for ICT.
The competition is organised in two categories, namely; Concepts and Projects. Under concepts well researched and documented ideas that have not yet been implemented are considered. Under projects ongoing operations showing preliminary results (e.g prototypes) and in need of support to scale their impact will be considered.

IEA urges governments to seize the opportunity to accelerate clean energy deployment

While progress is being made on renewable energy, most clean energy technologies are not being deployed quickly enough, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has in an annual progress report presented to ministers and representatives of nations that together account for four-fifths of global energy demand.

Sanasa Development Bank maintains growth momentum in 2011

SANASA Development Bank Ltd (SDBL) said last week it has registered impressive performance during the year 2011 by making a growth of 21% in Deposits reaching Rs. 15.2 billion from Rs. 12.6 billion recorded during 2010. The advances portfolio indicated a growth of 33% from Rs. 12.4 billion to Rs. 16.5 billion.

No more aid for Greece without reforms – ECB’s Weidmann

Reuters: Greece will not receive any more financial aid if it does not stick to the agreed bailout deal, European Central Bank policymaker and head of Germany’s Bundesbank Jens Weidmann was quoted as saying on Saturday.
He also told Sueddeutsche Zeitung in an interview that an exit from the euro zone would have a bigger impact on Greece than on the rest of the bloc.
