The ACT (Advertising Community Together) Responsible exhibition is here at the Cannes Lions again showcasing the very best of global responsible creative campaigns such as, the ‘Great Ads for Good Causes’. Since the first ACT exhibition in 2002 at Cannes, the association has been committed...

We always like to talk about new trends. We like to celebrate that with fashion. A few decades ago scholars and experts have discussed and applied the methods of promotion like TV, radio, print media. At the same time, practitioners argue about below the line and above the line advertising. Some start to explore the underline themes of subliminal advertising. In Sri Lanka, a few years ago there was a film called ‘Guerrilla Marketing’.  But there is nothing to do with the name of the film and the real meaning of ‘guerrilla marketing’. Now it is an era of digital marketing. In traditional marketing we use tangibles like business cards, print ads in newspapers or magazines, posters, commercials...

Murtaza Tajhboy reporting from 61th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2013 Day four of the 61st Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has been my favourite day so far. I still find it hard to believe that we are in France right now; the feeling is so surreal. It’s been raining a little but that hasn’t impacted our spirits at all and the forecast for the rest of the week looks beautiful. This morning we enjoyed a typical French breakfast consisting of freshly baked croissants, jams, fresh fruit and yoghurt – I wish I could bring a suitcase full back to Sri Lanka. The award ceremony last night was filled with excitement and great energy. We found out that Leo...

More than half of customers are likely to defect to a competitor brand when a product needs updating or their contract expires, according to a new study from global research consultancy TNS. Almost two thirds (60%) of customers are likely to defect to another brand when buying new electronic products; 57% would replace their car with a different brand; and 64% would opt for another manufacturer when selecting white goods like a washing machine. According to TNS’s global analysis of 40,000 customers, companies can no longer ensure loyalty and spend just by providing a reliable, consistent service. In fact, many of those who defected to a competitor actually felt their current provider was performing...
