Our wonders attract the world!
Today Sri Lanka is celebrating World Tourism Day in style, with a range of celebrations planned to showcase the country’s wonders to the world. Special youth programmes and commemorative stamp releases are part of the event to promote an industry that has taken off since the end of the war. For the first half of the year, Sri Lanka attracted 537,787 visitors and hopes to top 750,000 before the end of 2011, while a target of 2.5 million has been set for 2016.

SL, Iran renew ties in NY

A key bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly for President Mahinda Rajapaksa was with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday. The duo renewed and reaffirmed strong ties between the two countries. President Rajapaksa had updated the Iranian leader about recent political and socioeconomic progress in Sri Lanka. Ahmadinejad had admired Rajapaksa’s leadership and progress whilst Iran was thanked for her continuous assistance to the development of Sri Lanka.
