‘Avengers’ poised to top $ 1 b worldwide ticket sales

Reuters: “The Avengers,” the smash hit movie about Marvel superheroes who team up to save the Earth, crushed competitors for a second weekend with a record $103.2 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales and was poised to top $1 billion worldwide, studio estimates showed on Sunday.
After posting the highest domestic box office debut in history last weekend, “Avengers” set another record by easily topping the $75.6 million “Avatar” pulled in during its second weekend in 2009, making “Avengers” the first movie to exceed $100 million in its second weekend.

Being an avid reader, working in an office with colleagues who are equally huge fans of reading is quite beneficial, but can sometimes be a bit of a disadvantage – we tend to encourage each other’s madness rather than curb it when it comes to buying books. This generally ends up with us practically needing a wheelbarrow to cart out all our purchases each time we walk into a bookstore.

Skzin and Bones: The darker side of art and design

When Dr. Milinda Salpitikorala was a child he loved to draw. Now, as the 30-something year old medical professional embarks on his most ambitious visual art project, he calls it more than a favourite past time, but an alter-profession of sorts. The ‘Doc’ as he’s fondly known to close friends and associates, is best known for his rock/metal inspired designs, and is in the midst of preparing for his debut exhibition of art and tees – inspired by his love of the dark arts, paranormal and of course, heavy metal. In a brief interview with the Daily FT, Doc spoke of his influences, past and present and what he holds in store for art lovers and curious onlookers alike.
