Refined cane Exciting, elegant and exclusive

Wewel-deniya literally means the cane valley. It is one of the most well-known villages in Sri Lanka. As the name implies, it is famous for its cane products. The traditional craftsmen have been turning out numerous items for generations. As we drive along the Colombo-Kandy road, we see these displayed in shops on either side of the road.
Though we have got used to seeing the products at Weweldeniya, the craft village is Radawadunna.

The Gratiaen Trust in affiliation with Standard Chartered Bank: Engendering creative writing in English

It’s that time of year when literary attention is directed towards the annual Gratiaen Prize, in affiliation with Standard Chartered Bank, which is awarded to the best work written in English – published or unpublished – by a resident Sri Lankan. The prize, initiated in 1993 so now in its 19th year, is intended to encourage creative English writing in Sri Lanka.
