A symposium on drones organised by a Moratuwa University-led start-up will be held today at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) at Malalasekara Mawatha, Colombo 7 from 2.00-5.30 p.m.

Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka will grace the event as Chief Guest. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa and many dignitaries from science and technology agencies will attend and speak at this symposium.

Moratuwa University started developing UAV/Drone technology in Sri Lanka in 2006, and from 2010 onwards it started achieving significant technological milestones. Today it has a range of drones that are ready-to-deploy for various services such as aerial surveying, precision agriculture, package delivery and aerial surveillance. Recently a startup Future Drones Ltd. was established to provide drone services locally.

“Therefore, it is high time that we disseminate knowledge and technological know-how with prospective stakeholders. The drone technology we have developed can immensely benefit many government entities in doing their jobs much more efficiently, safely and cost-effectively,” said a spokesman for the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering of Moratuwa University.
