National Chamber leads delegation to Bangladesh in Sept.

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka together with the Sri Lanka Bangladesh Business Co-operation Council and the Sri Lanka High Commission in Bangladesh is making arrangements for a visit of a Sri Lanka business delegation to Dhaka and Chittagong. The trade delegation is due to visit Bangladesh from 16-20 September.

The Sri Lanka High Commission in Bangladesh and the Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka will assist the National Chamber with regard to logistics of the visit. The visiting delegation will be able to establish new trade links with their counterparts in Bangladesh for exports, imports and joint ventures. Meetings will be organised with Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Bank, National Board of Revenue and Customs.

The delegation is expected be led (to be confirmed) by Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen.

Main industries of Bangladesh are cotton, garments, paper, leather, fertiliser, iron and steel, cement, petroleum products, tobacco, drugs and pharmaceuticals, ceramic, tea, salt, sugar, edible oil, soap and detergent, fabricated metal products, electricity and natural gas. And export goods are garments, knitwear, agricultural products, jute and jute goods and leather. Bangladesh is also considered as a good investment destination having access EU market through GSP+.

Potential business sectors for Sri Lankan delegates would be import and export, logistics, freight forwarders, software solutions, chemicals, garment accessories and interior designing and investment.
