Continuing its impeccable track record, Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (CBL), showcased its supremacy once again by winning the National Quality Award (NQA) under the large category for the third time.

Organised and implemented by Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI), the award recognises Sri Lankan organisations that excel in quality management and quality achievements. This prestige honour is only presented once every five years and in securing this for the third time aptly demonstrates Munchee’s continuous commitment to sustain and improve quality.

Ceylon Biscuits has since inception taken pride in focusing on maintaining stringent quality of its products instilled by the quality philosophy of its President Emeritus Mineka Wickramasingha.

The business began with the manufacture of high-protein biscuits to supplement midday meals for school children under a joint programme between CARE International, USA and the Sri Lanka Government. Even then research and development was carried out to ensure the high-protein biscuit conformed to nutritional requirements.

Today, this award reinforces Munchee’s journey in continuing to upholding and maintain quality standards.

In presenting the National Quality Award, the organisers followed rigorous criteria in evaluating and selecting winners such as leadership, strategy, work force, process management, measurement analysis and knowledge management, customer focus, etc., thus maintaining the integrity of the award ensuring all aspects of quality are assessed.

Additionally, this award is in line with the globally renowned Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in USA and follows similar criteria helping companies strive towards performance excellence delivering world-class product quality.

Thus every stage of the process is assessed and performance evaluated from raw material to suppliers, machinery, employees, system, distributors ensuring continuous improvement in the overall performance of delivering products and also providing an approach for satisfying and responding to customers and stakeholders.

The award winners of NQA are also eligible to apply for the Global Performance Excellence Award organised by Asia Pacific Quality Organization. Previously, Munchee secured the Global Performance Excellence Award 2018 for Best in Class.

Further demonstrating its meticulous quality assurance regime, Munchee (CBL) is the first manufacturing company in South Asian region to receive the internationally renowned British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) Double A (AA) certification.

These awards and quality certifications emphasise Munchee’s steadfastness in ensuring all products are reliably manufactured according to the highest quality food safety and hygiene standards.

Commenting on the award, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Nalin Karunaratne said: “Quality continues to remain the biggest priority of CBL top management from our inception to-date. We abide by our commitment to deliver nothing but the best to our customers and this is sustained in every aspect throughout the company’s culture. Our entire team is passionate in corporate social activities apart from their actual work and we continue to invest in state-of-the-art technology in addition to employee training.”
