Six new COVID-19 patients bring total to 869

Six new COVID-19 patients have been identified today, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 869.

According Health Services Director Dr. Anil Jasinghe, all six new patients are Navy personnel from the Welisara Camp. Their samples had been tested at the Karapitiya Hospital, he added. Meanwhile, a total of 343 people have been discharged after recovering from the virus, while 517 active cases are under medical care at a number of hospitals across the island, data from the Epidemiology Unit at the Health Ministry showed. A total of 114 individuals suspected of having contracted coronavirus are in hospitals at present.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 1,057 PCR tests were carried out yesterday.

Nine persons in Sri Lanka have succumbed to the virus so far.
