The Health Ministry today moved to suspend State bus transport services for two weeks.

Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe instructed Passenger Transport Management, Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera to extend the current suspension of public transport by two weeks to all State bus services.

The decision had been made at a discussion on reopening of services from tomorrow, where Dr. Jasinghe had instructed the Minister to hold the resumption of regular public transport for another two weeks, citing the possibility of the public resorting to gather for non-essential tasks.

The Transport Ministry will continue the existing bus and train schedule where staff engaged in essential services, government workers and authorised private sector workers will be permitted travel on public transport while adhering to COVID-19 public health regulations.

Citizens who are not in the above three categories will not be permitted to travel on public transport for the next two weeks, the Minister said in a press release.
