The special commodity tax imposed on sugar has been increased, the Finance Ministry said.

Accordingly, the special commodity tax imposed on sugar has been increased by Rs. 8 per kg, the Finance Ministry said.

The decision was made at a meeting by the Cabinet Subcommittee on the Cost of Living held at the Finance Ministry.

However, as the world market price has come down by Rs. 10 per kg, the increase on the special commodity tax will have no effect on the present market price for sugar. (Colombo Gazette)
