SriLankan Airlines has been instructed by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) not to grant a service extension to its Chief Security Officer due to ongoing corruption investigations.

PRECIFAC has informed both the Board of Directors of SriLankan Airlines and the Public Enterprise Development Ministry to ensure that no extension is granted to the employment contract which is up for extension at present, a high-ranking ministry official who declined to be quoted confirmed.

“The Ministry has in turn informed the SriLankan Board of Directors and has told them to take this into consideration. Since they are an autonomous body we cannot instruct them on the issue,” the officer said.

PRECIFAC has highlighted that the move is necessary to prevent the individual from influencing investigations on a number of cases in which he is a suspect.
