President takes part in Indian Ocean Rim Association Summit in Jakarta

President Maithripala Sirisena, who is on a state visit to Indonesia, is scheduled to attend the Indian Ocean Rim Association Leaders’ Summit commencing today in Jakarta. 

The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in March 2017. As the current Chair of IORA, Indonesia will host the first IORA Leaders’ Summit in Jakarta today and tomorrow, under the theme ‘Strengthening Maritime Cooperation for a Peaceful, Stable and Prosperous Indian Ocean’.  

The President is scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony of the summit today and later he will deliver a special speech at the summit. The summit will bring together the leaders of the 21 IORA member states and its seven dialogue partners as well as other special invitees and guests.

During President Sirisena’s visit Sri Lanka will sign two agreements on cooperation in the fields of fisheries and small and medium enterprises.

President Sirisena is being accompanied by State Minister V. Radhakrishnan and Deputy Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe.
