Recent attempts on the life of the Chief Executive of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) were met with suspicion by the JVP, which saw “contradictions” in the evidence and accounts of witnesses.

Chief Opposition Whip JVP MP Anura Dissanayake, while highlighting the shooting which took place on 6 February 2017 targeting the SAITM CEO, called for an update on the progress of investigations and their outcome.

“CEO Sameera Senaratne, who identified himself as a doctor, was said to have been targeted in this shooting. According to media reports, two unidentified persons travelling on a motorcycle have opened fire at Senaratne’s car. Attempts both direct and indirect to place the blame on certain forces against SAITM were noticed. We believe there are contradictions in the statements made to police by certain individuals. So it is very important to know the progress of the investigation and the truth behind this incident,” he said.

According to the Minister of Higher Education and Highways and Leader of the House of Parliament, Lakshman Kiriella, Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka will respond at the next sitting. (AH)
