The Embassy of Sri Lanka, in close coordination and collaboration with the Sri Lanka Club, conducted a major blood donation campaign with the facilitation of the Salmaniya Hospital in the Kingdom of Bahrain recently.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr A. Saj U. Mendis, stated that well over 200 Sri Lankan nationals domiciled in the Kingdom of Bahrain donated blood at this campaign, jointly organised by the Embassy and Sri Lanka Club.

The Sri Lanka Club is the only registered and legalised Sri Lanka Club in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The President of the Club Ravi Jayakody stated to the media in the Kingdom of Bahrain that the blood donation campaign has been conducted by the Sri Lanka Club for a number of years.

Since the formation of the Embassy in year 2013, the Embassy played a pivotal role in the annual blood donation campaign. The blood donation campaign was held at the Embassy premises and the staff of the Embassy, members of Sri Lanka Club and Salmaniya Hospital assisted and facilitated in this campaign.

The Embassy and Sri Lanka Club chose a Friday since it was holiday and most of the Sri Lankans would be able to participate at this blood donation campaign. A number of well-wishers and sponsors provided refreshments and drinks, particularly, for the Sri Lankans who had donated blood.

The campaign began at around 8 a.m. and was to conclude at 12 noon but the time was extended till about 1:30 p.m. since many Sri Lankans were arriving to donate blood even after 12 noon.

Ambassador Dr. Mendis observed that courses of action such as blood donation campaign would further strengthen, deepen and widen the bilateral relations between the two countries. The Salmaniya Hospital, one of the premier medical institutions in the country, also deeply appreciated the altruistic and humane gesture of Sri Lankans working and living in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

A number of Sri Lankans, both working and non-working such as housewives and parents of expatriate Sri Lankans eagerly participated at this annual blood donation campaign. Mendis assisted by Jayakody, expressed gratitude to all those who donated blood, primarily for the benefit of the nationals of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
