“The laws of economics and many studies of diversity tell us that if we tapped the entire pool of human resources and talent, our collective performance would improve … when more people get in the race, more records will be broken. And the achievements will extend beyond those individuals to benefit us all” – Sheryl Sandberg, Lean In.

The case for inclusiveness is not difficult to understand. It makes complete common sense and is irrefutable when expressed in such clear terms. Unfortunately, however, it is a subject that many feel uncomfortable about discussing. People get angry or they get defensive.

It is time to learn to live with that discomfort. Aren’t we frequently told in business to get out of our comfort zone?

Join the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID at the Cedar Room, Cinnamon Grand on 26 January and get the directors’ perspective as to why it is difficult for women to break through the corporate ‘glass ceiling’ in Sri Lanka despite women achieving leadership roles in professions, academia and the judiciary. Networking opportunity from 5-5:30 p.m. and after the event.
