Livelihood support to flood affected

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society’s Colombo Branch yesterday took steps to distribute cash grants to flood affected people (2016) within the Homagama Divisional Secretariat area. 

These cash grants are aimed at providing livelihood support to these people. SLRCS has provided these cash grants with the support from Oxfam Sri Lanka. Rs. 15,000 were provided to 200 families in the initial stage. The distribution took place amidst the participation of the Homagama Assistant Divisional Secretary along with the President of Sri Lanka Red Cross Jagath Abeysinghe and the Branch Executive Officer of SLRCS Colombo Branch Kumari Kotalawala.

SLRCS has been providing ongoing support to the flood affected since last May. The total contribution to flood affected in Colombo, Gampaha and Kegalle district has exceeded $ 2 million. 1200 families will be served under the project with funding from Oxfam and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
